Summer Learning Journey – W2 Day 3

Hola Blogger!

Sorry, that I didn’t write anything yesterday. So I’m sharing what I did today and yesterday, it’s going to be a ‘2 in 1 blog post’!

What I did YESTERDAY:

Yesterday’s topic was “Art for Art’s Sake” The instructions were to create our own silhouette art work! A silhouette is an image of an object, a person and more. I really enjoyed this process of making the art that I’m going to show you. The part that was the most challenging was  making the right shape for the silhouette. I also chose a theme (this is not part of the instructions) which is: Merry X-mas Silhouettes!

Here’s my Art work:

What I did TODAY:

Today’s Topic is “Let’s Get Funky” I had to read an article on Kiwi music shows  and I used Sumotunes to make my own music!

Are you interested in what music I made? Listen for yourself:

What do you think? That’s it for today, if you have any advice or you really enjoyed read, please comment & share your thoughts!

Have you drawn a silhouette before? Have used Sumotunes before?

Bye Bloggers and Blog you later!

Summer Learning Journey – W2 Day 1

Hello Bloggers

I’m doing SLJ again! I hop you enjoy the following blog post of this final year of SLJ! Now today’s terrific topic is “Explore Levellers and Catapults”. Which is a Nanogirl challenge. I made my own it worked out pretty good. I used tape instead of string and I used a glue stick instead of a tube for a toilet roll.

The Moment of Truth?

Does mine work?

Watch this Video to find out:

So if you watched the video above my Catapult did work! Now in the video I only did it one time and it didn’t land in the target (which is the inside the circle). So the score after 5 minutes is: 12/33. Almost half!

Here’s the Video if you want to try it out yourself:

If you have any advice or you really enjoyed read, please comment & share your thought!

Have you made a catapult or a lever before?

Let’s Reflect on 2022!

Konichiwa Bloggers

It me, Vivian here again to talk about what the title says: Let’s Reflect on 2022!

Question #1: What event did you remember the most this year? Why do you remember it so clearly?  The TWA Showcase is my most memorable event so far this year. The reason is because I found it an amazing way to share our learning with our family and friends. Another reason I enjoyed it was because we got to have delicious food.

Question #2: What event did you enjoy the most? What did you enjoy about it?  I personally enjoyed camp the most because my friendship became much stronger during that time of the year. I also found it a time that I learnt how to be more independent! The part that I enjoyed the most was: Spending time with my friends!

Question #3: Which subject have you made the best improvements in?  It between Maths & Reading and the only reason that I’m saying this is because I’ve looked at my past achievements and they are more in Maths & Reading.

Question #4: What subject have you enjoyed the most?  Why? Definitely Art! My reason is because I can show my creativity. It’s also awfully fun!

Question #5: What new friendships have you made?  Not many but my friendships have been becoming stronger bit by bit!

Question #6: What responsibilities or opportunities have you participated?  Orienteering, Gardening, AV room, Librarian, Recorder!

Question #7: What did you think about those responsibilities?  For Recorder and AV, I either found it hard to get stuff right or I was just confusing myself. For the rest I just found it enjoyable.

My 2022 has been great (so far)!

The Journey in the Auckland Museum

Fakalofa Atu Bloggers

Today’s topic is… The Journey in the Auckland Museum. Te Waka Ako visited to the Auckland Museum on the 18th of October (which was just a few days ago). We got there and back by bus and came back to school the same.  You might be wondering why we went there don’t worry I’ll tell you. Our topic for this term was Navigation and Migration. We also went there to have a small recap on Volcanoes which we studied  about in Term 2.

We looked around the Imaginarium, the Volcano Room, the Classroom, the Pacific Lifeways room, the Weird and Wonderful exhibit, Auckland Area and where Peter the black bone dinosaur. We did a Treasure hunt in the Pacific Lifeways room, a True and False where the Peter the black bone dinosaur and in the Auckland Area we had to do answer some of the question and do other more like, taking a photo. Please have a look at my slideshow below:

By the end of the day I was exhausted. Well mainly my feet because of how many places we went to. I really enjoyed the trip to the Auckland Museum. Even though I have been to the museum before.

Have you ever been to the Auckland Museum? If you have any advice or thoughts please write it in the comments below. And until next time: Koe Kia – Goodbye

Inspired Circle Art

“Do you think pink with peach blended together will look cool?” I ask.

Hello to Bloggers!

Today’s topic Art, in Te Waka Ako we have being doing Circle Art that is inspired by Zena Elliott’s Current and Flow art pieces. Zena Elliott is a Maori Artist in NZ if you didn’t know.

So let get on to what we did. We started off by drawing 2 circles in our art book like a plan. One bigger than the other. Afterwards we draw patterns that we liked and patterns from our culture. In the middle we draw a symbol that represents us. Like something we love. After finishing planing we had to show our teacher.  Next drawed  it onto a 43 x 43 cardboard piece. It had 2 circles drawn there by our teachers. Then we draw the patterns on with pencil and we overlapped the pencil with either gold or silver pastel. Once we finished that we colored it in with pastel. We did colors that we like or colors that looked well together. But we only did the outer circle we had to do the middle last. For the middle we had to blend it the colors together. After we showed the teacher but of course we checked it with the teacher in between. Then we were done.

What do you think?

Would you like to do an art piece like this and impress others? Why not try?

Thank you for reading my blog post and make sure to comment on what I could improve about writing a blog post or in my art. See you soon bloggers!

2022 Waikowhai Art Festival!

Just need to glue that in. DONE!

Hello to the World,

Today’s topic is: Art Festival! This year my school had an Art Festival. Each class had it own theme that they were working on. My classes theme was ‘Conserve for Tomorrow’. So we did lots of parts to it. We started off by making our own cardboard stencil. Then we had to draw a pacific pattern on a brown piece of paper and then dye. It ended looking very similar to Tapa cloth. Afterwards we used our stencil to make a screen print on both black and brown pieces of  paper. Next we cut out an underwater animal silhouette on a black piece of paper and finally we cut out our tapa designs and screenprints to make a geometric shape for the biggest part of our animals body and we were finally finished. But Mrs Jones (My Awesome Teacher) had an idea of drawing a frame on the wave. So we did and on it we wrote ‘CONSERVE -‘ and what our animal we have drawn and cut outs maori name. I am really happy with the out come but I hated the fact that we need to cut out all the hard working that we had been doing.

Here are some of the outcomes for me and my class:

So what do you think? I have the links on how to make a screen print and a cardboard stencil.

Rocky Adventure (Y6 Camp)

Ouch, ouch ouch as my feet step onto the rocks that were on the shore.

Bonjour Blogger,

It Vivian, here to tell you about what I found challenging, fun and exciting at camp. The Year 6’s went on camp just last week, from 9th – 13th of May 2022. This happened just on the first day of camp. When we were at Goat Island Marine Reserve.  Have you been there before? Since I wasn’t snorkeling, I went with Ms Sands (Our lead teacher for camp also the person who set it up) to take photo for our online gallery.

We started off, by walking on the sand. Then onto the rocks we went. The souls of my feet almost screaming. I asked politely if I could quickly go get my shoes. She said Yes. Yay I’m so glad it really really hurts like x infinity.  I ran as fast as a leopard to get my shoes and as quickly came back my favorite turquoise shoes on my feet. And slowly walking on the rocks just in the case I slipped. And saw her carrying a very heavy looking camera. She asked me to check if they were OKAY. I said they were looking fine. We had to walk a bit more for they were snorkeling a bit further and also reaching Goat Island. Then the challenging part came for me. Avoiding to get my shoes. It felt like a game to me at the same time something really challenging because the waves keep on coming in. As the tide were going out I quickly ran to the rocks and get onto it. Just at the same time the tides were coming in again. After that I ducked under a fallen tree branch then down rocks shaped like stairs. Finally I arrived at the place where Ms Sands was. Once I arrived she gave me her camera that was heavy, really. I looked in to check if everyone was okay then had her back the camera the she continued to take some more photos. Soon they were heading in so did we. Soon we were back on to the shore to meet with the others.

Here are some pictures of day 1 at camp.

Have you ever snorkeling before?

Have you ever been in a Marine Reserve?

Swimming Time!

Hola Bloggers

I going to tell you how my swimming lesson was for last week.  My class was having a swimming lesson at the school pools. I was really excited because I haven’t swimmed in the pool for ages. I was really Happy was really happy before I hopped into the pool but my smile turned into a shiver. The pool was freezing. Mrs Jones (My Amazing Teacher) told us “It is warmer in the pool then out. It is 19 degrees outside and the while the pool was 26 so it is better to go under instead of above”.  At first I didn’t really trust what she said, But after a few minutes I felt so much warmer then I was when we first entered the pool. But I was still cold and I could see others were to. Luckily Mrs Jones saw that too. So she made us do all types of warm up like handstands, swimming at the very bottom of the pool with our tummies touching the bottom. I personally think that this is very fun, it was probably my favorite part. After the warm up we did a race on holding our breaths. Maddy (my classmate and friend) won because she swam to the end. Next we had relay. Everyone had to swim with a boards. It wasn’t race but it felt like one. Slowly people start to leave because it was too cold. I stayed because Mrs Jones wanted to see if I had improved. I wasn’t the only Brax also stayed too. We started with streamline first on the front then the back. After that we did freestyle and backstroke. Lastly Mrs Jones asked if I knew how to do breaststroke. I said I did and she asked me to show her. After that I went out because I was freezing and went into the changing room. That was an amazing swimming class and I loved it.

Here are 2 photo of my class swimming:

Thank you for reading my blog post.

What did you learn at swimming? Was it fun?
